It was their last game of the season. It was a home game, and the senior players and their families felt the specialness of the day. The afternoon opened with senior players escorting their family, flowers in hand, to the 50-yard line where they were introduced. The Marching Band was stoking up the crowd and the Booster Club BBQ grills were working overtime when the game began.

Bay Shore took to opening kickoff 76 yards for the first of seven touchdowns that would produce a lopsided final score. Whitman immediately fought back with Gerald Riley catching a pass from Parrish Respass for a score, but a penalty brought the ball back and time ran out in first quarter. The Wildcats scored in the 2nd quarter, but would not be heard from again, ending their day with a disappointing loss 49-6.

The Wildcats season ended with a 2-6 record. Their 31-7 win over Centereach and the 34-8 Homecoming win over Copiague will always be remembered, as many of this year’s group of seniors prepare to move on to winter sports. Next year is another opportunity, the coaches are huddling, and rebuilding has begun.

Thank you coaches for teaching our players the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, and hard work, and thank you athletes, your hard work and effort did not go unnoticed.

“Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.”
