Last week Oakwood Primary’s Second Grade Dual Language class read the book – Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin. After reading it they started wondering what the life of a real worm was like, so they decided to do some research. First they looked in the library and found some great books, and then they used the Internet to find some great websites. They also used Safari to find videos on worms. After all that research they wrote up facts, journal entries, and why or why not they would like to be a worm.

As a final activity, and with a little help from Ms. Simone DaRos and Uncle Jims Worm Farm, the children were able to have a great hands on experience with actual red worms!  Using magnifying glasses, tweezers and a lot of hand sanitizer, the class was able to examine, touch, and study the worms close up.

A great time was had by all and it was an experience the children would not soon forget.

All the worms were donated to a deserving compost heap.
