Mr. Adam Obletz is the new administrative dean at the Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center, replacing Ms. Christy Baralis who left to accept a position in another district. Mr. Obletz is a Long Island native and a 1993 graduate of Bethpage High School. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a major in English and earned a master’s degree in English Education at CW Post, as well as a master’s degree in administrative leadership from the College of Saint Rose in Albany.

Mr. Obletz has been an English teacher and then took an administrative role at a middle school in Astoria, Queens, for the past 13 years.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Mr. Obletz is an active outdoor enthusiast, and when the first signs of snow are on the horizon, his weekends are spent in the mountains of Vermont, where he is training future Olympians as a Stratton Mountain ski coach in the Allegro Freestyle competitive program. His love for the outdoors continues long after ski season has ended, and in the summer, he and his wife, Laura, spend their summers at a sports camp in Bridgton, Maine, where he is the head counselor at Camp Wildwood.

“I like to think that I bring an adventurous, three-career experience to Silas Wood,” said Mr. Obletz. “I have dedicated myself to working with all kinds of young people.  As a school administrator, a teacher, or in the great outdoors, I always try to remember that every venue is a classroom and that we always have something else to learn from the people we meet.  Here at Silas Wood, I’m committed to helping to provide a safe, happy and energetic learning environment.”
