In a hilarious exploration of literacy and its elements, Steve Petra and his mostly lovable PetraPuppets visited Maplewood Intermediate School this morning. “This show is really about literacy, and it’s not just confined to books,” said Steve Petra. “We have skits that pump up your vocabulary and test your knowledge of figures of speech, punctuation, and one of the most important elements of reading, comprehension.”

Steve, a highly accomplished ventriloquist and puppeteer, trained at the National Theatre of Puppet Arts and Jim Henson Productions.  He and his wife Jeanie specialize in curriculum-based programs for elementary schools that combine puppetry, illusions, props, sound effects, music, and humor, all of which kept the Maplewood students and teachers engaged from beginning to end.
