The Boys Varsity Soccer Team continued their winning ways with a thrilling come from behind win against Sachem North yesterday by the score of 4-2. This win pushes the team's record to 4-0.

Getting off to a slow start, Whitman’s Boys Soccer team knew in the first half just how good Sachem North was. “The first half we didn’t play well getting off to a slow start,” said Head Coach John DiGiacomo. “But thanks to Goalie Dan Zagorski it was only 1-0 at the end of the first half.”

The second half proved to be a different story with everyone stepping up with solid play and being in the right place at the right time. Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Wildcats tied the game with a 35-yard strike from Darwin Hernandez. After Sachem North scored to take the lead again, Witman Hernandez netted both the tying and go ahead goals to give the Wildcats the lead at the 71st minute. Duglas Garcia put the game out of reach with a goal off an assist by Jose Chavez. Also registering assists were Mike Lorello and Jeff Sully. Dan Zagorski stopped 8 shots in order to secure the win.

“Coach [Brian] Karcz challenged the team at halftime and said ‘show us your heart,’ and they showed it with 4 goals in the second half,” said coach DiGiacomo. “You can’t ask for anything better than that. This was probably one of the biggest wins in a while against a quality, top-ten County ranked team.

Please come out and support the team at their next home game on Tuesday night, September 24th, under the lights, against Northport at 7pm.
