A little more than 6,000 South Huntington students officially ended their summer recess and headed back to school today. At Stimson Middle School a new principal, Mr. Edwin Smith, greeted the 7th and 8th-graders. And at Birchwood Intermediate School, on busy Wolf Hill Road, a new street crossing light system greeted students who walk to school.

As is customary in South Huntington, our new kindergarten students ride the bus for the first time accompanied by their parents. It makes for a smooth transition for moms and dads. Our high school students settled in, as their new year will bring a full-plate of activities both in the classroom and on the stage and sports fields. Long Island’s first STEM Designated Middle School is ready for their second year highlighting the new and exciting opportunities that STEM education will create. In a few weeks Silas Wood’s most famous new students, the NAO Robots will arrive to add to an already rich educational environment.
