"There is tremendous respect for each other on this team and I believe her presence is a huge part of that,” Whitman Varsity Golf Coach Allan Deitz.

The First Tee of Metropolitan New York (TFTMNY) is sending Brittany Ferrante of Huntington Station, to compete in the 2013 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event that will be held September 27-29 and televised internationally on Golf Channel.

Ferrante will join her other First Tee selected teammate Casey Durant of New Hyde Park, and 79 other participants from The First Tee chapters around the nation for the event, which is in its 10th year. The participants were selected by a national panel of judges who evaluated playing ability and comprehension of the life skills and character education learned through their involvement with The First Tee. Almost 150 applications were submitted.

Ferrante has been a participant at The First Tee of Nassau County since 2006, and soon after joining took on a leadership role as a student intern.  She has continued to be a leader and a role model ever since at The First Tee, and has taken these important qualities with her outside the program to the Walt Whitman Boys High School Varsity Golf Team.

“I'm very excited for her and proud of her for all the work she has done with the First Tee Foundation. She always gives back,” said Whitman’s Varsity Golf Coach Allan Deitz. “She has been a driving force in establishing and running the golf portion of the Summer Wildcat Sports Camp - now in it's 3rd year.”  Brittany is in her 5th year as member of the Whitman’s varsity golf team. “She works and competes as hard as anyone,” said Coach Deitz.  “She's not intimidated by having to play on the boy’s team and loves the challenge. There is tremendous respect for each other on this team and I believe her presence is a huge part of that.”

The opportunity to play in The First Tee Open is very exciting for Ferrante. "It's a dream come true,” she said. “Something I've been working towards since I was in 6th grade."

“The First Tee of Metropolitan New York is very proud of Brittany and Casey!” said Barry McLaughlin, TFTMNY Executive Director. “They are both outstanding participants of The First Tee who live by the Nine Core Values.  They have worked extremely hard to develop their golf games and are exceptional role models who have continued to give back to The First Tee.  Brittany and Casey will be wonderful representatives of our Chapter while at The First Tee Open, and we wish them the best of luck!”
