It’s official; Mr. Edwin Smith has been named the new Principal at Stimson Middle School. Mr. Smith will take over the Stimson reign this summer from retiring principal Faye Robins. You may think, I’ve heard that name before, but it’s not because he grew up locally and attended John Glenn High School, it’s because Edwin was an Administrative Dean at Stimson in 2008.

After earning his undergrad degree at SUNY New Paltz, Edwin returned to Long Island where be began his career teaching seventh and eighth grade Social Studies in the Harborfields School District. While teaching, he returned to school to pursue two master’s degrees, one in history, and one in school administration. Mr. Smith comes back to Stimson after several years as Assistant Principal at the Merrick Avenue Middle School in the Bellmore-Merrick School District.

At Tuesday night’s BOE meeting, Mr. Smith and his wife Jill were officially introduced. “I’m so fortunate and so excited to be here,” said Mr. Smith. “It’s a wonderful opportunity in a great community and I feel very fortunate to be able to come back to South Huntington.”
