Overview:  This activity will enable the student to identify contractions. The student will also have to use the Link Symbol to connect words.

Lesson Sequence:

1) Using the overhead monitor the teacher will re- introduce the concept of contractions.

2) Review that a contraction is a short form of two words. Also review that an apostrophe takes the place of the missing letters.
 

3) Read the directions, Using the Link Symbol, link the two words on the left with their contraction on the right. Students may need some practice with using the link symbol. Remind them that if they make a mistake the “oops” button will help them or they can highlight the item and press the delete button.

4) Complete the first one as a class. Activity may be use as an independent activity.
